Upcycling Art Competition - Our dragon has a name!

We are happy to announce that the winning entry for our 'Name the Dragon' Competition is ... SPIKE!  Well done to Ben Maiorana (B3) for nominating the name that won the most votes.

We were also visited by Jared Crowe, Waste Education Officer at the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council at our recent assembly.

SPIKE and its creators were presented with their First Place award prizes of SciTech gift vouchers, Recycle Right reusable bags and an indoor pot plant.

The Upcycling Art Competition was run by the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council (SMRC) that undertakes waste management for Melville, Fremantle and East Fremantle. ‘Recycle Right’ is the SMRC’s education arm, designed to engage and educate students about sustainability, recycling, composting and waste avoidance.

The SMRC and Recycle Right have resumed taking free tours for school groups and residents at the Regional Resource Recovery Centre (RRRC), the premier recycling and composting facility in WA. The RRRC has a custom-built education centre and specially designed observation decks that enable visitors to see what happens to materials placed in the yellow-topped bin. Each tour is tailored to suit the audience and incorporates interactive activities. A variety of other educational resources are also available. To find out more information about upcoming community tours, or to book a tour of the RRRC for your group, email tours@smrc.com.au
