Principals Update

Caralee CS acknowledges the Bibbulmun people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which the school stands today and pays its respects to the Whadjuk Noongar people and elders past, present and emerging.

By Mr Jason Shapcott, Principal

With Term 2 already halfway through, we have had some great events at Caralee this term.

The ANZAC Service was held in the undercover area due to forecast rain and damp ground around the flag area. We had very positive feedback from parents and special guests, with the student leaders and representatives running the service very well. We had for the first time an Aboriginal Defence member speak and Tenaya stayed after to speak to children and Elders.

We have several staff on leave for Term 2. Mrs Kidd in PP is now permanent to Caralee and will be a Professional Learning Community (PLC) leader for our ECE area with her vast experience in ECE from her previous schools. She is a former Willagee Primary School student with a deep connection to Willagee. Mrs Kidd is currently on leave and we welcome back Ms King who started at Caralee and has been with FLDC in recent years.

Most people would know Mrs Norman is on long term leave for 2023. If she decides she is enjoying her time away on a permanent basis, we will recognise her many years of service to Caralee when the time comes. Mr Moir is on leave for most of this term, so Mrs Wain is fulltime Deputy. Several teachers including Mrs Kidd, Ms Longley, Mr Bilsborough and Mrs Dow are all having a turn as Acting Deputy to help in the office over the coming weeks. To help cover that and other leave, we thank Ms Reddan, Ms Matassa and Ms Rodriquez for working or increasing their time at Caralee in Term 2.

There are several important and fun events for the term. Term 2 is winter sport, so I am enjoying taking over Mr Moir’s football while away and we look forward to the carnival in Week 8 with training underway.

Our girls’ soccer team had a fantastic outcome winning the ‘Fair Play Award’ for the region and proceeding to the State finals (see the full story later in the newsletter).

NAIDOC preparations for Week 10 are in full swing with cooking, cultural dance, storytelling and many other activities planned to celebrate the role of Elders in our community. The choir and music students have events planned, including a concert for Alchera living and a special assembly in Week 6.

I look forward to seeing our students having a great time at the P&C Disco this Friday!!

Siobhan Micale, Yard Property Real Estate

Siobhan Micale is delighted to be involved with Caralee Community School with a relationship between her and the school that began in 2009. Throughout this time Siobhan has sponsored many school fundraising events over these years including: Caralee’s Got Talent, Cup Race Night, Caralee Colour Run, Caralee Book week, Willagee Christmas Lights Competition, Fundraising for the Nature Playground, Caralee’s Annual Fete, Caralee Quiz Nights and so much more.

Caralee $500 Referral Program

As Willagee’s longstanding and most active agent, Siobhan Micale works with the wider Willagee community to help support Caralee Community School through her referral program, offering a $500 payment direct to Caralee Community School, to be utilised by the school as they need. For every property listed, and referred by any parent or grandparent who’s child/children or staff currently attend Caralee Community School, and who exclusively use Siobhan to sell their property, a contribution of $500 is donated back to the school after settlement of the property.

Parents of Caralee Community School students may refer friends and relatives, who don’t have children who attend Caralee,  to sell their property with Siobhan Micale and will also receive the $500 referral back to the school, as long as they have referred Siobhan Micale and make her aware of the referral program prior to listing their property with her.

If you would like to help Siobhan to contribute to the $500 Referral Program, please contact her today 0410 085 174.

P&C Day WA, Friday, 19 May 2023

Last week, Caralee & FLDC Willagee staff said THANK YOU to our amazing P&C for contributing so much to our school!
P&C volunteers are a shining light within school communities.  Their dedication and passion helping to provide WA students with the outstanding educational experience they deserve.

Over the period of 2020-2022, WA P&Cs made huge contributions to our schools, donating an impressive collective total of close to $12million each year.

In the same period, P&Cs provided a collective total of nearly 500,000 hours each year. It's essential to recognise that each hour volunteered and dollar donated helps ensure students across WA have an exceptional educational journey.

To all the current and previous serving members of our Caralee P&C, THANK YOU!

School Sport WA Primary Football (Soccer) Championships

By Mr Grant Moir, Deputy Principal

Our interschool girls soccer team have had some marvellous experiences over the last couple of weeks and have continued in the wonderful tradition of our Caralee representative teams.

On Friday, 12 May 2023, the team travelled to Hossack Reserve in Lynwood to participate in the Eastern Conference Tournament and not only came runner up on the day, but more importantly, took out the Fair Play Award!

Lilly Thomas (Year 4/C2) was named MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the Tournament.  An amazing achievement, considering she was up against girls two years her senior!

The result from this tournament allowed the team to qualify for the inaugural Sam Kerr State Soccer Championships at Aubin Grove Community Reserve. After weeks of training, it was fantastic to see the girls showing their skills on the big stage under lights against strong opposition. The girls flew the Caralee flag with distinction throughout the game.

In the first knock-out final against Phoenix PS, the game was played at a high level, with both teams creating many scoring opportunities. We had some fantastic individual performances, with Charlene Lim making countless saves in goals and Juliette Bates controlling the midfield with her endless running. In the end, the clash went the way of Phoenix, though not without a fight. The girls played hard all game and put in a tremendous effort.

Congratulations to all girls who represented Caralee CS. It was a great team effort, and we are all very proud of you. A special thanks to Mrs Reddan, Ms Spalding and Mr Sam Atkins for training the girls throughout the term.
