By Mr Jason Shapcott, Principal
Hi everyone
Welcome to our first newsletter for Term 1, 2023.
It has been an unusual start to the year with In-term swimming, Edu-dance lessons and preparations for our triennial Public School Review all taking place in the first four weeks of school.
I have been very impressed at how settled and refreshed our students have been after returning from holidays. I have been particularly impressed in how staff and students have embraced the current activities and worked through those requirements. My thanks to the Office staff who geared up last year to take in money early and managed this as well as new year enrolment start processes. A team effort all round.
P&C AGM
Safe to say a record turnout of dedicated parents and community members for the first meeting which resulted in an executive and committee.
I look forward to the events planned for 2023 which look fun and will help build our community. Some events will bring fundraising into the P&C which ultimately helps the kids. This year is a fete, so that will require a group of parents to start planning soon. See the P&C page in this newsletter for more information.
SCHOOL BOARD
We welcome Maha White to the Board as a parent and P&C representative. Maha brings her experience as Secretary of the P&C to the Board and is already helping to represent our parents’ perspectives on the Board.
We look forward to David Cousins starting as Board Chair at our first meeting for 2023. It is not goodbye yet to former Chair Amanda Buisman who will remain as a community member to support transition. We also look forward to City of Melville First Nations Engagement Lead, Aimee Ryan joining our Board to represent our Indigenous Community.
School Development Day (Pupil Free) Friday, 03 March 2023
In order for staff to attend Letters & Sounds professional development, students will not attend school Friday 03 March.
This will enable new staff to undertake this training and update existing staff in the latest approaches. Letters & Sounds has been an important program at Caralee with success evident in Year 3 literacy data consistently higher than comparable schools.
Year 3 & 5 students are busy preparing for NAPLAN later in the term. I look forward to seeing parents at the Edu-dance concerts scheduled in week 10. See the term planner for more details.
Siobhan Micale is delighted to be involved with Caralee Community School with a relationship between her and the school that began in 2009. Throughout this time Siobhan has sponsored many school fundraising events over these years including: Caralee’s Got Talent, Cup Race Night, Caralee Colour Run, Caralee Book week, Willagee Christmas Lights Competition, Fundraising for the Nature Playground, Caralee’s Annual Fete, Caralee Quiz Nights and so much more.
Caralee $500 Referral Program
As Willagee’s longstanding and most active agent, Siobhan Micale works with the wider Willagee community to help support Caralee Community School through her referral program, offering a $500 payment direct to Caralee Community School, to be utilised by the school as they need. For every property listed, and referred by any parent or grandparent who’s child/children or staff currently attend Caralee Community School, and who exclusively use Siobhan to sell their property, a contribution of $500 is donated back to the school after settlement of the property.
Parents of Caralee Community School students may refer friends and relatives, who don’t have children who attend Caralee, to sell their property with Siobhan Micale and will also receive the $500 referral back to the school, as long as they have referred Siobhan Micale and make her aware of the referral program prior to listing their property with her.
If you would like to help Siobhan to contribute to the $500 Referral Program, please contact her today 0410 085 174.
