Principals Update 17 November 2021

Caralee CS acknowledges the Bibbulmun people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which the school stands today and pays its respects to the Whadjuk Noongar people and elders past, present and emerging.

By Mr Jason Shapcott (Principal)

Mr Michael Cranny's Retirement
On Wednesday 17 November, we bid farewell to Mr Cranny after many years’ service to the Willagee community with Willagee PS and then Caralee CS from 2005.

Mr Cranny performed a number of liaison roles originally for Willagee and Caralee and was instrumental in bringing together the Willagee and Carawatha communities in his role with the school amalgamation committee.

Mr Cranny is better known for his recent work as a Special Needs Education Assistant and we will miss his never ending patience, good humour and generous spirit that made him a wonderful member of staff.  All the best for your well-deserved retirement, Mr Cranny.

Fete
Now we are in the second half of Term 4,  the Caralee Community Fete is only weeks away.  P&C Fete coordinators, Emma and Paula, have worked up an exciting list of vendors and activities for families to enjoy with year groups busily sorting out stalls. Check out details regarding the Term 4 Fete at Caralee Community Twilight Fete.

Cyber Awareness
My thanks to Nadia Norrish and the P&C for booking Paul Litherland from Surf Online Safe to present to parents and Years 5/6 students on Tuesday, 26 October. The sessions were very informative and parents were keen for Paul to come back to Caralee in 2022.

Thankfully we have already booked Paul for next year as I’m sure he will be in high demand given that he was recently awarded the WA State Recipient Australian of the Year 2022 (click the LINK for the full story).

My thanks again to Nadia, the P&C and Paul for helping our kids and families with this important topic.

End of Term Reward
Mr Button is planning a fun end to the term for students who remain in good standing until the end of term. As we have done in the past, water slides are booked as a positive behaviour reward for the last day of term. Parents will receive notes closer to the event. The water slides are being subsidised using a credit from swimming lessons earlier in the year. If parents would prefer that the small credit (approx $2.00) be refunded instead, please contact the office.

Inter-school
Our netball teams had a great time earlier in the term competing in the Melville SHS Netball competition.  Feeder schools to MSHS participated in the event and the teams were coached and umpired by MSHS netball specialist students, many of whom are ex-Caralee students. My thanks to Ms Garrett for training the teams.

Similar thanks go to Mr Sam Atkins and Mr Roseveare for their work with our cricket team who participated so well at the WACA Cricket Blast Cup. The team competed well against teams from across the metro area.

Our last competition for this year is a Futsal (indoor soccer competition) as part of Cockburn District Sports Association and I wish the teams well for the competition.

Year 2 (B4) - Outdoor Classroom Day!

By Miss Kaiya Doyle & Mrs Crystal Gillam (Year 2 Teachers)

On Thursday, 4 November, B4 celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day in the sunshine.

We had a wonderful time writing our persuasive texts, discussing why Cats are better than Dogs, do you agree or disagree?

In maths, we had fun measuring the perimeter of the lawn and finding different sized squares and rectangles to measure their length and width.

In the afternoon, we had HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) where we have been researching culturally significant sites of Perth and learning about the history of these important places.

B4 really enjoyed working outside for the day and we can’t wait to do it again!

Caralee Sports Day 2021

Interschool Athletics Carnival

By Mr Sam Atkins & Mr Andrew Button

Students from Years 3 to 6 represented Caralee CS at our Interschool Athletics Carnival recently.

A small group competed in the Jumps & Throws, where the Year 6 Boys picked up 1st and 2nd Place, with Josh Burnby throwing a huge 59.9 metres!

A larger group represented Caralee in Track & Tabloids. All students trained hard in fine-tuning their skills as a team which payed off with every student winning ribbons.

Melville SHS - West Coast Fever Netball Carnival

By Miss Tamisha Garrett (Yr 5 Teacher)

Some of the Year 4 & 5 students participated in Melville Senior High School's West Coast Fever Netball Carnival.

This carnival is part of the Year 9 Melville SHS Netball Specialist Program.  The Year 9 students plan the carnival, as well as umpire and coach on the day.

The students had a wonderful day competing against other local schools. A special mention to Nikita, Jonah and Nicolas who were recognised as the best players in their team.

It was great to see some ex-Caralee students in the netball program.

Melville SHS - STEM Blast 2021

Caralee CS Year 5 students will be attending an excursion for the student part of STEM Blast in the afternoon. The event advertised here is for ALL members of the public Friday, Nov 26 2021 from 3.00pm to 4.00pm.

A Message from the City of Melville

Help shape how we get around the City of Melville using active transport.

Although we are specifically naming 'walking’ and ‘riding' in this plan, we really want to hear how we can make getting around better for anyone who uses shared paths/trails - or simply needs better access to make trips around City of Melville, or connecting routes from one location to another.

If you use a skateboard, run with a pram, use a wheelchair, motorised scooter or any other transport methods we haven't specifically named - we'd love to hear from you too!

Survey, interactive map and expressions of interest close Sunday, 12 December 2021.
